BAND NEWS

Feature in Pasadena Star-News

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

“Where I see myself is a guy who’s doing a modernized version of that traditional California country,” Langston said. “I don’t want to just do tribute stuff, I don’t want to just revive an old style of music. I want to put a spin on it for today.”

Sin City Music Features “Burt Reynolds Movie Brawl” in their newest online Jukebox!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Sin City Music is the hottest touchstone for Alt-Country and Americana in These United States. Run by Shilah Morrow it floats like an angel above LA, Austin and Nashville hosting shows, events, and sharing the good news about new country music.

We’re VERY honored to be included in the latest online jukebox with the likes of Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Delbert McClinton, Tim Easton, Gina Villalobos, and my friend David Serby. Some serious talent…the old and new guard of Texas and California Country music.

Here’s the link to listen to the music.

Press and Podcast Spins for “Stand Up Man”

Monday, July 6th, 2009

We’re adding some new reviews and Podcast audio. As with all the spins and mentions, once you’ve listened never hesitate to email the DJ and put a good word in for GL&TS.

  • This is from the station “Roots Paradise” in Holland. You can check out the entire show here. (Couldn’t help but notice that she’s also playing a sweet tune by LA Honky Tonker David Serby. Right On.)
  • Our tune, Shiner Bock and Vicodin, just been recommended as part of a Musical 12-Pack by IndyWeek, a Durham, NC based weekly.

Grant Langston Channel Now on Pandora

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Pleased to announce that the band and I have been added to the musical encyclopedia that is Pandora.

Click here to launch the Grant Langston Channel.

If you haven’t heard of Pandora, it is an online resource available both through their website and an iPhone app. You type in an artist that you like and their system analyzes the facets of that artist and serves up other songs by other artits that are similar - in a radio station format. It’s like having your own radio station that’s playing music to suit your particular tastes. It’s an ingenius idea that has turned me on to loads of interesting new artists and songs.

And the free iPhone app is consistently one of the most popular in the iTunes store.

Dutch Review of “Stand up Man” - Absolutely Hilarious

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

I’m sure it’s just the translation software. I’m sure in Dutch this reads like Noel Coward, but here’s what KG Music Press sent over last night from the Dutch site, “CNTRL ALT COUNTRY“. My favorite quote is

this enjoy is blown from the first to the last note.”

GRANT LANGSTON “Stand Up Man” (MSG Records) GRANT Langston “Stand Up Man” (MSG Records)

(3,5****) (3.5 ****)

“Stand Up Man”, Grant Long Tons sixth, is the kind of plate as in LA seem to be made. Langston, his band The Super Models and producer Rich McCulley find them just about the perfect balance between traditional country in many aspects and road house rock. From Bakersfield pur (opener “Stand Up Man”) to energize countryrock (Burt Reynolds Movie Brawl “), a handsome semi-ballad (” Shiner Bock And Vicodin “) to a voluptuous stampertje on his Texan (” 30 Days “) of a steel sounds soaked traditional tug (” Just Pretend You Love Me Tonight “) to guitar pregnant, hitgevoelige alt. country (” Not Another Song About California) California thoroughbred country ( “Call Your Bluff”) to by the Amy Farris on fiddle and mandolin of McCulley put commercial concession ( “I Give Up”) of supersonic swing ( “Damn Good Day”) to a swampy note (the closing reprise of “Call Your Bluff”), this enjoy is blown from the first to the last note. And if you like country with a sharp edge to it, then you must also believe that we not let down!

Divorce Number One at #5 on Southern Thunder Radio

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Got a very kind message from the folks at an Internet radio station called Southern Thunder Radio in Fort Myers, FL. Looks like our tune, Divorce Number One is in the Top 10.

This is pretty good company:

Southern Thunder Radio Top 10 as of May 29, 2009

1) V.K. Lynne - Scarlet Rain

2) Shear Kahn - Tell Me The Truth

3) Van Zant - Help Somebody

4) Hank Williams Jr. - Country State of Mind

5) Grant Langston - Divorce Number One

6) Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue On Black

7) Gator Country - Gator Country

8) David Allan Coe - The Devil Went Down To Jamaica

9) Buffalo Springfield - Stop, What’s That Sound

10)King Cotton - Workin’ Man Blues

If David Allen Coe wrote a song called, The Devil Went Down to Jamaica I gotta get my hands on that.

I’ve been listening to this station for awhile, and our music aside, their selection of Outlaw, Alt Country and Redneck Country is astounding. Shit, I just heard some Muddy Waters. Here’s the link to the station…send them an email and thank them for playing D#1 from Koreatown

In a nod to these digital times, along with plastic CDs and online downloads, we’ll be selling download cards of the new album, Stand Up Man at shows.

These nifty items, pictured here, are for people who tend to buy the CD only to rip it and toss it in the trash. You’ll get everything you get with the physical CD - lyric sheet, cover art, album credits - without the pesky disc.

Each Download Card has a unique code on the back. You’ll visit grantlangston.com/dropcard and type in your code. Voila! You’ll be able to download all the goodies in a high-end MP3 format.
